Encounter is a meta-dancefilm starring two dancers, Caitlin Canty and Kimiko Tanabe, enacting a first encounter. Their reflections on their real-life relationship create the soundtrack for this story about memory, friendship, intimacy, communication, and love. Personal contemplations on what it means to identify as a dancer are mixed in with the casual banter of female friendship. The dancers' memories of each other, how they first met, and their experiences of the film shoot itself, run alongside their improvised movements based in contact improvisation.
