She is concerned with the philosophical implications of perception and cognition in relation to embodiment and technology, as well as the performativity of the art object in the space of the exhibition and the implementation of the kinaesthetic field of both performer and audience. Whether using costume or camera to enact an altered perception and feel differently, her work stems from improvisation and explorations of site.&nbsp; Originally from Latvia, Agnese Cebere grew up in Sweden, and earned her BA in Intermedia Art at Edinburgh College of Art, Scotland. She graduated with an MA in Media Studies from The New School in New York in 2018, where her research focused on embodiment and technology as they converge in screendance.&nbsp; She is now based in Eugene, Oregon, where she worked as an instructor in Art at the University of Oregon from 2022–2025. She served as Program Director at Eugene Contemporary Art from 2019–2023 and graduated with an MFA in Art from the University of Oregon in 2022. She is currently a member of Ditch Projects and an instructor of art and art history at Linn-Benton Community College. Through photography and sculpture, they explore themes of landscape and terrain, surface and depth. Situated within the high desert landscapes regional to Bend, Cebere and Langley eschew romantic depictions of this familiar terrain and instead cast their gaze downward: at abandoned campsites, makeshift fire pits, and household refuse. The exhibition includes photographs by Cebere, all part of the series Desert Shots, taken near Redmond, OR. These images are the product of an investigation of a liminal site of recreation that is also a site of illegal dumping of waste and detritus. Part forensic investigation, part aesthetic intervention, this work underscores the way nature and culture are intertwined in our everyday lives. Langley’s sculptures take as their starting point the notion of the consumer remnant— a cast-off object or material (a scrap of junkmail, a weathered piece of plastic) whose color, shape, or texture provokes an artistic response. The completed sculptures are de-idealized, pseudo-geologic forms that interrogate the perceived division between natural and synthetic, while nodding to the materials and structures in Cebere’s photos. Point of Contact considers surface as both an entry point and final resting place. Through Langley’s active relation between herself and surrounding waste, the overlooked is leveraged to gain new purchase on a smooth, habitual world. Equally, Cebere employs artifice as a revealer of form. September as seen on the floor upstairs in the hayloft. A hole in the wall becomes an aperture and creates a camera obscura. A time drift. It reminds me of Roland Barthes writing in Camera Lucida on photography’s closeness to theater by way of death. Simultaneously living and dead, there and not there. “Photography is a kind of primitive theater, a kind of Tableau Vivant, a figuration of the motionless and made-up face beneath which we see the dead.” * Newledo Exploration Hub, in collaboration with Rural Alchemy Workshop (R.A.W.), is launching fluxscape, a year-long show that investigates shifting flows of time and land through Newledo’s 10-acre northern pasture, known as the "North-10." The “North-10 pasture” is in an interim state of transformation, with a future plan for major environmental restoration of the site and its coastal watershed. The site is a physical manifestation of our conflicted landscapes and state of uncertainty due to climate change, environmental degradation and human impact. The land provided grazing pastures for hundreds of dairy cows over the past 120 years. It has a mix of native and invasive plants, some in both categories useful to humans. It has Beaver Creek, which formerly meandered through the flat land but was trenched years ago to make more room for dairy cattle to graze. The creek is connected to the ocean and has some salmon but in its current state it neither provides ideal salmon or beaver habitat. It has a constructed pond home to various migrating bird flocks. It's a major flood plain in the winter, with a portion on the national wetland registry. The field wraps around a hillside of a neighboring tree farm clear cut in 2018. fluxscape, an innovative art exhibition, flows outside traditional indoor spaces and timeframes of artistic presentation and invites visitors to encounter contemporary artworks created in conversation with dynamic forces and shifting ecologies of a unique coastal landscape-in-transition. fluxscape features installations and performances by Pacific Northwest and international artists whose works engage visitors with hidden dimensions of this land’s pasts, presents, and futures. Artists include Angelina Almukhametova, Jill R.
